1) David Ausley married (unknown) Chatham County, NC

2) Almond Ausley (Osley) was born in North Carolina about 1804 and married (1st) Amanda (Mandy) Brasington/Brazington (b. 1808 d. before 1860) in Chatham County.  Almond died Feb. 9, 1886 and is buried in Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church, Graham, NC

Children of Almond and Amanda:  Elizabeth (b. abt. 1835) married William Goodwin, Joseph D. (b. abt. 1839 died in the Civil War battle at Seven Pines, Va. on 31 May 1962), Thomas A. (b. 11 March 1842 Chatham County  died 11 Sept. 1911 Durham, NC) married Emeline Cates, George (b. abt. 1845), and John R. (b. Feb. 1948) married Joanna Perry. 

Amanda was the daughter of Joseph Dixon Fred Brasington (b. abt 1755 England/NC d. abt 1810) and Martha Gladdish (b. abt. 1756 d. after 1830).   Amanda's brothers and sisters were: Judah (b. 1798) married David Ausley; Nancy (b. ?); Joseph (b. 1802) married Azpey ____ in 1826; Samuel Nicholas (b. 1803/1804 d. Feb. 1848) married Nancy Catherine McNeal in 1825/1828; and William (b. 1806) married Mary Winn in October 1829.

Almond married (2nd) Sarah Matthews (Mathis) on 3-25-1860. She had 2 children by a previous marriage: Joseph (b. abt. 1852) married Emaline Kinney, and Annie Elizabeth (b. 12 Oct. 1857  died 6 April 1952 buried at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church, Graham, NC).

Almond and Sarah had several children: Sarah Katherine (b. abt. 1861 died 20 Nov. 1881) married George L. Phillips, William Harvey (b. Jan. 1863  died 1936) married Florence F. Fowler and Minnie Zachary, and James George (b. April 1867  died 15 April 1912).

3) Thomas A. Ausley (b. 11/3/1842 or Feb. 1840 Chatham County NC died 9-11-1911 in Durham, NC.  Possibly buried at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, Durham, NC) married Emeline Cates (b. Jan. 1855 or 1856 d. after 1911) of Orange County, NC, daughter of Isaiah (b. 1824 - d. 3 Oct 1892) & Rhoda Ellen Ray Cates (b. 1828 - d. 1896). Both Isaiah & Rhoda Cates are buried at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Durham, NC.

Thomas and Emeline Ausley & their children lived in Orange and Chatham Counties, NC until around 1890 when they moved to Durham, NC.  The family moved to Portsmouth, VA about 1903/1904.  Thomas and Emeline had returned to Durham around 1911 prior to his death.  In the 1913 Portsmouth, VA City Directory, Emeline/Emma (widow of Thomas) is living with her son Joseph D. Ausley on 4th Avenue.  When and where did Emeline die?

Children of Thomas and Emeline:

4) William Benton Ausley (b. abt. 1872 d. 1 Dec. 1942) married (1st) Victoria Sykes (b. 11 Aug. 1869 died 2 March 1933) on 3 June 1891 in Durham, NC.  Both William and Victoria are buried at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA.  William married (2nd) Emma Lee Fleming (died 6 Aug. 1952. Buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, VA).  In the 1910 Federal Census-Virginia, William and Victoria are listed as having no children.  In the 1920 Census, they have a son listed, Vernon (age 12, born VA).  Is this their son or the son of Lonnie and Amanda Ausley Maynor?

     5) Vernon Lawrence/Lawrence Vernon (Larry) Ausley was born 9 July 1907 in VA and died 5 June 1970 in Gila Bend, Arizona.  He is buried in Pioneer Cemetery in Gila Bend.  He married (1st) Edith Munday before 1930, they had one son, Loran Vernon Ausley (born 1928/1929 in Michigan and died 3 July 1998 in Virginia Beach, VA).  Larry and Edith divorced a short time after 1930 and she moved back to Michigan with Loran and later married Hosea Rowell.  Larry married (2nd) Helen L. Holcomb (1918-1989) in 1952, Bellaire, MI.  Larry and Helen were married only a few years before he left Michigan.  Larry married (3rd) Lena Joanne Lovelace.  They were still married when he died in 1970.   
    Larry was in the TEC5 Signal Corps during WWII.  He traveled extensively from Virginia to Michigan to Washington State to Arizona.  He was a cook when he died in 1970.

4) Georgetta Ausley (b. abt 1874  died unknown).  Georgetta married (1st) Joseph M Hopkins on 12 August 1891 in Durham, NC.  Their children were:  Lilly M. (b. 1893), Lela E. (b. 1897) married an Askew, and Percy J. (b. 1901 VA).  Georgetta married (2nd) Clymouth Derring before 1920 in Norfolk, VA.  At some point, Georgetta moved to Washington, D.C.

4) Amanda Ausley (b. abt. 1878/1880 died May 19, 1910 at 607 Chestnut Street, Portsmouth, VA.  She is buried at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Durham, NC) married Lonnie Chambling Maynor on 5 June 1900 in Durham, NC.  Amanda and Lonnie had one son named Vernon.  What happened to Vernon?  Was he adopted by William and Victoria Ausley after Amanda's death?  Or did he die as a young child?    
      Lonnie was born 11 Aug. 1881 in Chatham/Moore County, NC to William Judson and Mary Ann Phillips Maynor.  He was a barber by trade.  After Amanda's death in 1910, he moved back to Durham, NC for a short period of time and then moved to Petersburg, VA.  He married Maude Mabry (daughter of Archibald & Minnie Lee Baxter Mabry) on 17 August 1912.  They had one son, Woodrow Maynard, born abt. 1914 (died May 1972--obituary states there are no surviving famiy members).  Lonnie was a barber in Petersburg and he & Maude lived with her mother on 214 N. Sycamore until after Woodrow was born.  Lonnie is not listed with Maude after the 1913-1914 Petersburg City Directory.  Maude married Charles B. Wells on 17 Sept. 1929 in Petersburg. 

      Lonnie filed his WWI Registration papers in Charleston, West VA. in 1917-18.  He ws living at 218 Patrick Street, was a barber, and listed Elizabeth Maynor as his next of kin. 
Who is Elizabeth?  Lonnie died of pneumonia Feb. 18, 1919.  His death certificates lists him as married, but no other personal information--including place of burial--are listed.  According to Barlow Funeral Home in Charleston, Elizabeth Maynard paid their expenses.

4) Thomas/Tommie H. Ausley (b. abt. 1887  died unknown)

4) Joseph D. Ausley (b. April 7, 1889 died 26 Nov. 1974 Portsmouth, VA.) married Annie Maud Baugham (b. 16 Feb. 1893 died 8 Feb. 1973) on 6 April 1913 in Portsmouth, VA.  Annie's parents were W.J. and Ella Baugham (born NC).  Both Joseph and Annie are buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Chesapeake, VA.  Their children were:  Joseph D. (b. 9-30-1914 died 11-29-1988 VA), Charles T. (b. 2-7-1916 died 12-26-1997 VA), Myrtie E. (b. 1920 died 14 April 1995 VA), Ella A. (b. 1921), Rachel M. ( b. 1921 died 29 Oct. 1993 VA) married Melvin Nanney, Mary E. (b. abt. 1924) , and Virginia C. (b. abt. 1925 died 20 March 2005) married (1st) Mr. Martin (2nd) George/Ed Sweeney.

Davis Family Connections

1) WILLIAM C. DAVIS (b. abt. 1794 Moore County NC) married Phebe (b. abt. 1795 Chatham County NC).  I think Phoebe was daughter of Willis Phillips and unknown---she was llegitimate according to her father's will. Her siblings were: Jane Brewer (wife of Mijacah Brewer), Elizabeth Phillips, Silby Phillips, Henry Phillips, and Issac Phillips. 

2) WILLIAM DAVIS (b. Abt. 1820 Moore/Chatham County NC)
married Clarkey Hilliard (b. Abt. 1820)
     Children:  Wesley (b. abt. 1844 married Sarah____); Martin D. (b. 1846 d. 1922); Taylor (b. 6-1-1849 d. 11-29-1928) married Margaret/Maggie Phillips (b. abt 1856); Martha A. (b. abt. 1852); George C. (b. abt. 1856).

3) MARTIN D. DAVIS
(b. 1846  d. 1922) was the son of William and Clarkey Hilliard Davis of Moore County, NC.  

    Martin married Nancy Jane Black sometime before the 1870 NC Federal Census.  They resided in Ritters Township in Moore County.  Their first child, Mary J., was born in December 1870.  Nancy died in childbirth in January 1880.

    Martin married Thenia Maness on Jan. 12, 1881 at the residence of Neil McPherson.  Wm. J. King Esq. performed the service.  There was a notice about the wedding in the Moore Gazette on Feb. 7, 1881 --  Marriages ~ Martin Davis to Thenia Maness, Moore County.

    Thenia Maynor was born on 11-27-1847 to William and Chloe Phillips Maynor in Chatham County, NC.  She died 2-7-1926 in Ritters Township, Moore County and is buried at Cool Springs Methodist Church "Her End Was Peace" in Glendon, NC with her husband, Martin D. Davis.  Her tombstone lists her birth date as 1849.

    John Turner Davis (b. abt. 1887) married Sallie Lee Jackson on 12-8-1906 
    Meta E. (b. 12-25-1889  d. Oct. 1969) married James J. "Jim" Williams late in life & lived in Robbins. Jim was born 1865 and died 1953.  They are both buried at High Falls United Methodist Church in Moore County.

    Children of Martin and Nancy Jane Black Davis:
    Mary J. (b. Dec. 1869  d. unknown)
    Devotion (b. abt. 1870) married Zenar (Zena) Phillips on 9-18-1892, Joe Seawell, JP.  Zena was the daughter of Charles and Emily Phillips.
    Atlas (Altus) (b. abt. 1874   d. unknown)
    Frank (b. 1-14-1875  d. 12-17-1956).  He married Fannie Moore who predeceased him. Frank was buried at Cool Springs Methodist Church in Glendon.
    Lucy Ella (b. abt. 1878  d. 6-5-1932).    Both Lucy Ella and her husband, Bill, are buried at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Chatham County, NC.  Her tombstone lists her birthdate as 9-15-1880. (That is impossible since her  mother (Nancy J. Davis) died in January 1880.  Lucy married William Robert "Bill" Maness on 1-7-1895 at the home of  John Riddle in Ritters Township.  Bill was born 8-15-1859 and died 3-2-1900.  He was the son of Ira Lane and Catherine Ritter Maness.  Ira was born 1-5-1832 and his father was Shadrack Maness and his grandfather was Billy Maness.
