and Phoebe Phillips Davis and that Phoebe (Feby) was possibly the illegimate daughter of William (Willis) Phillips and
(unknown) of Chatham County.
Martin was first married to Nancy Jane Black sometime before the 1870
NC Federal Census. They resided in Ritters Township in Moore County. Their first child, Mary J., was born in December
1870. Nancy died in childbirth in January 1880.
